Random acts of kindness

Today I went in to my local dry cleaners to pick up a coat that I was having cleaned for my grandmother. The coat had a fur collar and needed to be removed in order to be cleaned and then sewn back on, and my grandmother didn't have a dry cleaner in her little town that she trusted enough to do this. Last week I took the coat in and earlier in the week checked back and it was not ready. So I decided I would go in today to get it. I had gone home for lunch and debated whether I would stop by on my way back in to work or on my way home from work later in the day. I opted to stop right then and walked in, they got the coat for me and I was all set to pay when the owner came from the back.

He told me that today was my lucky day which completely surprised me because I had no idea what he was talking about. Then he proceeded to tell me that I was the 60th customer in there this week to pick up clothing and at the first of the week they had decided that the 60th customer would receive a random act of kindness- aka free dry cleaning. He then went on to say that they didn't ask that I do anything except pass along the random act of kindness to someone else because in this economy in which things are so bleak, if everyone did a random act of kindness for someone else it would make things seem better and improve people's outlooks. (or something to this effect- I'm not quoting word for word because I was generally shocked!)

Well, let me tell you- I will definitely pass along this random act of kindness to someone else. And as WEG said when I told him, karma always comes back around so apparently I have been doing something right!

Anybody else had a random act of kindness bestowed upon them lately? I'd love to hear!

Everybody's Working for the Weekend

Happy Friday everyone!

I am so excited because today I will be going to Charleston for the weekend for my friend Julie's bachelorette party and here is what the weather is shaping up to look like:

Saturday, May 30
High: 87 °F RealFeel®: 90 °F
Mostly sunny
Saturday Night, May 30
Low: 67 °F RealFeel®: 70 °F
Clear

Sunday May 31
High: 88 °F RealFeel®: 92 °F
Sunny
Sunday Night, May 31
Low: 66 °F RealFeel®: 68 °F
Clear and humid

NO RAIN whatsoever in the forecast, just sunny skies and warm temperatures. PERFECT for the beach on Saturday- Hell yeah! After all this rain we have had lately I was skeptical. I can't wait to spend some time with the girls and celebrate Julie's upcoming marriage.

Just a few of the ladies going on the trip: Julie, me, Holly, Shanna.

Although we are going to have a great time, we will definitely be missing our friend Carolyn. Please say a prayer for Carolyn if you get a chance. Her grandmother passed away this morning after battling alzheimer's and a bout with pneumonia. I've mentioned Carolyn on my blog before- she is another one of my friends that is getting married this summer.

Carolyn 2 Christmases ago- I just love the facial expressions she makes for pictures sometimes! :-)

If you are reading, Caro- I love you and I'm thinking about you and your family during this difficult time!
That's all, folks! I hope everyone has the wonderful weather that South Carolina has been promised and gets to enjoy being outdoors!

If you don't like the weather....

Just wait 10 minutes!

That's how it has been here in South Carolina lately.
Take today, for instance. It was pouring down rain when I left on my lunch break- seriously, the National Weather Service had come across the radio and issued a flash flood warning for the county north of here. It looked a bit like this:

I went into Target and the rain was starting to subside, but it was still majorly overcast. I was in Target for a grand total of 15 minutes (seriously shocking in and of itself). I come out and it looks something like this:

Full sun. Steam coming off the pavement- ick! I needed my sunglasses when I came out it was so bright. Who can figure that out?
And what is the weather like now, you ask? Back to overcast and looking like it could rain again at any time.
And this has been the norm for the past few weeks, I feel like. Good ol' SC weather!

Obsess much?

Is there such a thing as being too organized?

I swear I make a list for everything. At work, I usually have multiple lists going- of course I am able to keep up with each list! Whenever I go on a trip, I make a packing list and also a list for things I need to accomplish before we leave for said trip. WEG laughs at me for this, but I generally don't forget anything (except the time we went to Fripp for Valentine's Day and I remembered the Wii and the Wii Fit and the games, but managed to forget the remotes! Everybody has a brain lapse now and again).

Currently, I have lists which include:
  • Packing list for Charleston this weekend
  • Things to accomplish during the week prior to the trip
  • Things to accomplish this week at work
  • List of things to go into work packets
  • Gifts I have to buy in the upcoming months
  • Things to do for a bachelorette party in June
  • Things to do for a bachelorette party in July
  • Things to do for a shower in July
  • List of upcoming purchases I have to make (I have to budget!!)

See, there you go- another list of all my lists.

Some people might say I am obsessive, but I generally get things done and don't leave out important things I need to do or items I need to bring. That's my rationale, anyway.

Perhaps because of my extreme organization, I am already packed for this weekend's trip out of town. I did it yesterday for the most part. Except for items that I will have to pack on Friday morning, everything is in its proper bag and sitting on G-waiting for O. My lists were quite handy, by the way, and I won't be scrambling around on Thursday evening or Friday morning worrying if I am forgetting something.

So ladies, I ask you- are you this organized or do you find my organization a bit obsessive? It's okay, tell me the truth- I can handle it!

Friday tid-bits

Happy Friday, everyone! I'm so ready for the weekend to begin! This will be the first weekend in May that WEG and I actually get to spend together and I'm pretty excited! We don't have any set plans, but we will be working in our yard. I managed to chop down all the limbs off the azalea bushes in front of our house. Now, the base of the shrubs need to come out of the ground so that new bushes can be planted because, right now, it's an eye-sore.
I know there are many of you that probably love azaleas, but I just don't really care for them. Sure, I think they are beautiful when in bloom, but an azalea bush isn't so pretty when it's not blooming which is the majority of the year...and they are high maintenance as far as pruning goes. Plus, our azaleas were scraggly and not full. So they're going and will be replaced by boxwoods or a bush that does not flower! Any suggestions?? Our front yard is fairly shady, so we need something that doesn't need a lot of sunlight.
Anyway, that's our major plan for the weekend. Besides that I am trying to lobby for a nice dinner out to my favorite restaurant, Mr. Friendly's...yum! Check out their menu-mmmm!
In other news, I am going to get new tires today- finally! Since the PepBoys debacle, I haven't had time, but I'm leaving work early today to get it done at a local tire place. My bank account will take a nice little hit, but it has to be done!
I hope everyone has a great weekend- enjoy your long weekend if you get Monday off. I do not have it off, so I will be slaving away at work which seriously sucks. WEG has to work, as well, so I guess it could be worse!
Sorry for no pictures in this post- I didn't have anything that was complimentary to my stories!

Frustrated!

I am completely and utterly frustrated with Google Reader! For the past 2 or 3 days, it has been taking Google Reader up to a day to update that I have a new post. It's so annoying!! In fact, you probably won't see this post until tomorrow (Friday morning), but I am posting it at 3:00 on Thursday afternoon.
Does anybody know how I can remedy this? It's annoying!!
