Twenty-four week update

How far along:  24 weeks

Size of the baby: This week, What to Expect says she is the size of an eggplant (9 inches, 1.7 lb) and Sprout says she could be as much as 12 inches tall.

Total weight gain: 14 lbs.  I only gained a pound over the last 4 weeks, so I evened out my massive 10 lb. weight gain from weeks 16-20. Whew!  I was getting a bit concerned I was going to be a hippo by the time I gave birth.

Maternity clothes: Mostly all maternity now, but I can wear some non-maternity shirts and dresses as long as they are loose in the belly area.

Gender: Girl!  Her initials are CRG

Movement: Most definitely.  She's quite the busy bee at times, moving all around.  I can see my belly jump, and Daddy is even able to feel her.

Sleep:  I'm sleeping just fine, except I'm more conscious about rolling over to my back during the night.  Trying to sleep exclusively on my side, but I wake up to find myself on my back.  I have been doing well with having to get up to go to the bathroom in the night.  Sometimes I don't get up at all, but it's usually just one time if I do.

What I miss:  I'm missing my regular clothes.  I feel like I wear the same things over and over again because I don't want to spend an abundance of money on maternity clothes.

Cravings: none.  However, I am loving watermelon, but that's not out of the ordinary for me during the summer months.

Other crazy symptoms:  My nosebleeds have subsided, thank goodness.  I'm experiencing a little bit of soreness around my belly button, which is apparently completely normal.  And my back hurts by mid-afternoon when I sit at my desk at work all day.  Other than that, I've had a little bit of swelling at times in my legs and feet, but overall nothing too terrible.  I can't complain!

Baby's milestones:  From "What to Expect:" Baby C's skin is turning pinker because of small blood vessels that are forming.  Her lungs are gearing up for air intake and her nostrils will start to open this week.  From "Sprout:" Baby C is beginning to get some hair growth on the top of her little head, and her lungs are producing surfactant to help keep them from collapsing after birth.

Best moment this week:  I passed the glucose screening to no 3 hour test for me!  Woohoo!

Up next: My 28 week appointment.  And iron therapy because my iron counts were a bit low when they checked my hemoglobin this week.

Twenty Week (ok, 21 week) update

**Disclaimer: I know the formatting is off on this, but blogger is once again not cooperating, and I can't bring myself to re-type it, so there you have it.

How Far Along: 21 weeksSize of the Baby: According to the "What to Expect" app, our baby is the size of a banana this week (7 inches, 11 oz.)
Total weight gain: Well, I made up for that loss last update big-time.  I'm up 13 lbs now.  YIKES!  Not liking the way that's going, so time to get down to business with better exercise and eating habits.
Maternity clothes: Someone gave me some maternity clothes, mostly shirts, so I broke down and bought a few pair of maternity pants and shorts.  I still prefer dresses, and can wear a mix of maternity and regular dresses, as well as a mix of regular and maternity shirts, but it's strictly maternity pants now.
Gender: Girl, and her name is a definite.
Movement: Definitely can feel her moving in there now.  She moves the most at night, especially when I am lying in bed.  So, she already appears to be a night owl like her daddy.  In fact, she had her hands over her face at the ultrasound, which was in the morning, as if she was trying to tell us to leave her alone.  Ahem, this is definitely like daddy, too!

Sleep: Sleeping more on my side now out of necessity, but still sleep best on my back.  And still getting up a couple times for the bathroom, but sometimes I can make it through the night only getting up once.
What I miss: Same as always, Blue Moon and cold deli meat, but other than that, not too much.
Cravings: None.
Other crazy symptoms: Nosebleeds every time I blow my nose, and I've definitely felt the round ligament pain.  Heartburn continues, but Prilosec is my best friend, and I can definitely tell when I forget to take it.
Baby's milestones: From "Sprout": Baby G resembles a miniature version of a fully developed person, but can still fit in the palm of my hand.  She often hiccups to practice breathing and swallows amniotic fluid to practice eating. From "What to Expect": My uterus is now about an inch above my belly button.  Baby G is developing her sense of touch and her grip.  She can perceive light and dark better, and her eyebrows and eyelashes are well formed.
Best moment this week: Our 20 week ultrasound that showed all of her organs and body parts developing nicely.  Brain, heart, lungs, spine...check, check, check, check.  Makes me breathe a giant sigh of relief at this point!
Up next: My next appointment at 24 weeks will be my glucose test.  Afraid of this one because I swear that everybody I've heard of lately has failed the first and had to take the 3 hour one.  I'm deathly afraid of needles, so this is not something I want to have to do!!

Sixteen Week Update

**I'm actually at 17 weeks, but I could not get Blogger to cooperate with me last week to format this post, so I got frustrated and quit trying.

How Far Along:  16 Weeks

Size of the Baby: According to the "What to Expect" app, our baby is the size of a turnip this week (5 inches, 5 ounces).  However, the "Sprout" app says she is 4 inches and 4 ounces (a lemon).  Our ultrasound indicated she is 6 ounces, so I'm leaning more towards turnip.

Total weight gain: I lost a pound between 12 and 16 weeks, likely due to the fact that my appetite stopped being like that of a teenage boy.  So, my total weight gain is about 2 lbs., although is surely feels like more.  I'm definitely losing muscle tone, though, and muscle weighs more than fat, I've been told.

Maternity clothes: I'm wearing looser dresses and a few maternity dresses that I have bought from Target, simply because it's not that big of a difference and they were really cute, although not totally necessary.  I haven't worn them yet, but I've also bought a pair of maternity white jeans and shorts.  Really, I'm sticking to dresses right now.

Gender: It's a girl!  And we're 99% sure of her name :-)

Movement: I still haven't felt any that I can completely pinpoint as baby and not something else, but it's possible that's what it has been.

Sleep: I get up once or twice during the night to go to the bathroom, but other than that, I sleep soundly.  I'm still on my back mostly, but have noticed that if I stay too long on my back, I wake up with "dead arms"

What I miss: Sub/Club sandwiches with cold deli meat.  And I'm still missing a nice, refreshing Blue Moon, especially since it's so good in the summertime.

Cravings:  Besides the Blue Moon and cold deli meat that I can't have, nothing.

Other crazy symptoms: I still have indigestion if I don't take Prilosec.  My skin has improved...knock on wood!...as has my appetite (I'm not nearly as hungry all the time).  I have the occasional backache, headache, and nosebleed, but nothing major.  I'm considering myself very lucky to have missed the sickness bug this time around.

Baby's milestones: From "Sprout":  The uterus is continuing to expand, as are the baby's lunhgs to draw in amniotic fluid and prepare them for breathing.  From "What to Expect": Baby G's body fat is beginning to form, and she's starting to listen to noises.  Her eyes have finished their migration and are beginning to make small side to side movements through eyelids that are still sealed shut.

Best moment this week: Finding out that Baby G is a Baby Girl, and she has two arms and two legs and appears to be developing nicely.

Up next: My next appointment at 20 weeks is for the anomaly scan which checks all of her organs and body parts.

Sugar and spice....

... and everything nice.
That's what little girls are made of.

We found out today at our 16 week appointment that Baby G is a SWEET BABY GIRL!  WEG is doomed.  He is going to be wrapped around our little girl's finger :-)

12 week update

Sorry for no picture of my "baby bump" but I haven't done that yet.  Still not sure if I will or not, but we'll see.  As for the update, here goes!

How Far Along: 12 weeks

Size of the Baby:  According to my "What to Expect" app, our baby is the size of a peach this week (3 inches long), and according to my "Sprout" app, he/she is the size of a key lime (1/2 ounce).  Those two fruits seem a bit different in size to me, but whatever they say!

Total Weight Gain: I'm not 100% sure what my weight was at my 6 week appointment, but I think I have gained 3 pounds, which is amazing it hasn't been more because I was STARVING for a good little while and ate everything in sight.

Maternity Clothes: None so far, although my pants are starting to get a little tight.  But, I'm wearing them until they are uncomfortable, so we'll see how much longer that is!

Gender: We'll find out at Week 16, but so far, I have no predictions.  One day I think girl, the next boy.  We're excited to find out, but are mainly concerned that our baby is healthy!
Movement: I'm not feeling any movement yet, but at our appointment, we had a wiggle worm on the ultrasound.  The ultrasound tech had to "chase down" him/her to get the heartbeat.  If this continues, I'm sure I'll be feeling plenty of movement soon enough!

Sleep: I'm sleeping like a champ, which is not out of the ordinary, but I do have to get up several times a night to go to the bathroom, which annoys me because I don't like to be disturbed!  Hahaha.
What I miss: I'd really love a good Blue Moon or a glass of wine, and at a baseball game last night, I really wanted a hotdog, but other than that, there's not a lot I miss right now except maybe feeling energetic enough to go for a run.  Did I just say that?! Someone, write it down!
Cravings: I haven't had any crazy cravings yet.  I could eat cheese toast every day of the week, but I'm not sure that's any different than any other time.
Other crazy symptoms: So far, I've had major indigestion, but that as been all but cured with Prilosec.  I had no nausea, and I think that boat has sailed right by me- praise the Lord!  I have the occasional headache, but the air is full of allergens, so I don't know if it's a hormonal headache or an allergy headache.  I have had nosebleeds...again, not terrible, but I have a little bit of one every day, it seems.  Other than that, I've been tired, but seem to be getting more energy each day as we approach the 2nd trimester.  And the worst symptom for me has been how bad my skin is.  I have never had great skin, and I was on a low-grade antibiotic to combat it, but of course, had to stop taking it.  So, my face looks like a teenage boy's.  I guess that just goes hand in hand with my voracious appetite.

Baby's milestones:  From Sprout: This week, my uterus is the size of a small melon and moving forward, the fetus is beginning to demonstrate reflexes such as sucking, grasping, and hiccupping.  So, there you have it :-)  The doctor told us that Baby G is coming in at the 83rd percentile.

Best Moment this week: The best moment of our week would have to be everything about our 12 week appointment.  We loved seeing our little wiggle worm on the ultrasound and hearing the heartbeat (150 BPM) was amazing.  We were told that our pregnancy is deemed to be low-risk at this point, which is always a sigh of relief!  And, we found out that we can pay a little extra to have an ultrasound to determine gender at our 16 week appointment, which is a month before we would normally.  Sign us up!

Tap, tap....is this thing on?!

Hello! Anybody out there?  Yep, didn't think so!  But, in any case, I'm back after quite the long blogging break, and hopefully, I'll have more to update this time around.  Key word, hopefully.  I can't make any promises that I won't flake out again and forget about the ol' blog, but I'm going to make a better effort.

So, a lot has happened since I last filled you in.  WEG and I got married on October 29th  at our perfect cotton wedding (I'll do a post with pictures one day soon)- best day of my life, had a wonderful honeymoon in St. Lucia, celebrated Thanksgiving and Christmas with our families, turned the big 3-0 in March, house hunted for hours on end, and said goodbye to WEG's grandmother at the end of March/first of April (we miss you, Granny!).

But, that's not where the major life events stop- oh no!  I am happy to announce that we are expecting our first bambino on November 5th.  This is the main reason, I'm back to blogging.  I need somewhere to document our journey, for myself in years to come, and this is an easy way to remember how my pregnancy went and keep our family informed!

I'll do another post on how everything has gone so far, but in the meantime, I'll leave you with a gratuitous picture from our honeymoon- man, what I wouldn't give to be relaxing in St. Lucia again!

At Rainforest Hideaway restaurant in Marigot Bay, St. Lucia.  If you get the chance, it's delicious!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas....cards, that is!

I can't believe it's been three months since I have updated my blog.  I'm not really sure I even have any readers left!  Life has been busy.  Work was crazy the whole month of September and there's this little thing happening in nine days that has kept me busy otherwise- my wedding!  It's still hard to believe that I had just hit double digits when I posted 90 days ago and now I'm at 9.  Time is zooming.

But, that's not the main point of my post.  I'm back to tell you about the greatness that is Shutterfly.  Have you ever used it for anything?  I got my Christmas cards from them last year, and I couldn't be more pleased with the way they turned out.  I also made a photo calendar for my parents, and my mom says it was her favorite gift and has already requested another one this year.  Additionally, I had a gallery wrap canvas made of one of our engagement pictures.  Shutterfly is so easy to work with and their shipment is quick and easy.  It's a breeze!  And the quality is fabulous, to boot.

So, enough about what I've bought!  Do you want to see what they have to offer?  Here's just a sampling:

They have tons of beautiful Christmas cards.
Here's one of my favorites:

If you don't celebrate Christmas, or prefer to be politically correct, they have holiday cards.
One of my favorites of those:

Or, if you need to thank your friends and family for all those gifts, check out their holiday thank you cards.
I love this one:

And, if you're still reading and want 25 free holiday cards from Shutterfly, the first 3 to comment will receive a promotion code- happy commenting!
