Twenty-four week update

How far along:  24 weeks

Size of the baby: This week, What to Expect says she is the size of an eggplant (9 inches, 1.7 lb) and Sprout says she could be as much as 12 inches tall.

Total weight gain: 14 lbs.  I only gained a pound over the last 4 weeks, so I evened out my massive 10 lb. weight gain from weeks 16-20. Whew!  I was getting a bit concerned I was going to be a hippo by the time I gave birth.

Maternity clothes: Mostly all maternity now, but I can wear some non-maternity shirts and dresses as long as they are loose in the belly area.

Gender: Girl!  Her initials are CRG

Movement: Most definitely.  She's quite the busy bee at times, moving all around.  I can see my belly jump, and Daddy is even able to feel her.

Sleep:  I'm sleeping just fine, except I'm more conscious about rolling over to my back during the night.  Trying to sleep exclusively on my side, but I wake up to find myself on my back.  I have been doing well with having to get up to go to the bathroom in the night.  Sometimes I don't get up at all, but it's usually just one time if I do.

What I miss:  I'm missing my regular clothes.  I feel like I wear the same things over and over again because I don't want to spend an abundance of money on maternity clothes.

Cravings: none.  However, I am loving watermelon, but that's not out of the ordinary for me during the summer months.

Other crazy symptoms:  My nosebleeds have subsided, thank goodness.  I'm experiencing a little bit of soreness around my belly button, which is apparently completely normal.  And my back hurts by mid-afternoon when I sit at my desk at work all day.  Other than that, I've had a little bit of swelling at times in my legs and feet, but overall nothing too terrible.  I can't complain!

Baby's milestones:  From "What to Expect:" Baby C's skin is turning pinker because of small blood vessels that are forming.  Her lungs are gearing up for air intake and her nostrils will start to open this week.  From "Sprout:" Baby C is beginning to get some hair growth on the top of her little head, and her lungs are producing surfactant to help keep them from collapsing after birth.

Best moment this week:  I passed the glucose screening to no 3 hour test for me!  Woohoo!

Up next: My 28 week appointment.  And iron therapy because my iron counts were a bit low when they checked my hemoglobin this week.

  2. I was (and still am) anemic during both pregnancies. The best advice I can give you is to always take your iron pill with vit c (fruit or OJ) to help it absorb better. And if you can, take it on an empty stomach either 1 hr before or two hours after eating. It really helps with absorption!!
